More support needed for college-bound kids

As a prospective university freshman, I personally find the amount of college and career instruction to be severely low in our school system. It seems as if the school is only concerned with a student’s graduation.
The Advanced Placement courses and those who teach them seem to be the few all-stars putting in any effort by assisting students with post-graduation plans. To be honest, the majority of adults that helped instruct me with applying for university and drawing up future career plans were in fact my teachers.
I propose that every student be given individual consultation about personal goals, post-graduation plans, and career ideas. If the student does not have an answer, it should be the school’s job to provide him/her with one, rather than scribbling down ‘undecided.’
It’s not that most students are lazy or affluent that they put little effort into college planning. They are just uninformed because their school shows little to no faith in them wanting to attend college or find a career they are passionate about.
Moreover, there have been many times that I have sought instruction and received ‘I don’t know’ or ‘Ask my secretary’ as a response.
I’m sure each and every student would be discouraged by such responses. I know I have.
