All Juniors and Seniors are going to have an opportunity to participate in a mock election next Monday during their social studies classes. Even students who are not American citizens will be able to participate, for a teacher can’t legally ask about a student’s citizenship status.

“It is important to hold a Mock Election to get students excited about the political process, and learn about who the next possible president is going to be,” Mrs. Mawyer, one of the primary organizers of the Election, said.

Last year some fights were caused due to political differences, so teachers have reminded students not to produce unnecessary conflicts.

“Students need to realize that this is America, and what makes us so great is that we all have our own opinions,” Mrs. Mawyer said. “We should be respectful of all of us having our own opinions.”

People who have not made their decision will be able to do some research using online and on-campus resources. A chart that presents each of the four candidate’s positions on various topics is posted at the entrance of the THS library. More information about their plans will be posted around campus over the next few days.

Some of the most reliable and unbiased political news websites, as recommended by Mrs. Mawyer, include: crowdpac.com, in which voters can take quizzes that will match them up to the candidate they most agree with, pbs.org , nrp.org, and realclearpolitics.com.
